Excerpt from Kaybass.com regarding this bass in 2017:

Your Kay O-100 #6830 was built in 1940, and appears to be in stock configuration.
The O-100 is the deluxe version of the standard Orchestra model. Kay’s Orchestra line was designed for classical students, with more sober finishes and frequently wood tuning machines and endpins. The O-100 and blonde O-100B are distinguished by higher-quality appointments and the center stripe on the back.
Kay luthiers experimented with features in the prewar years, and where most O-series basses came with applied volutes, yours has a fully carved scroll, unusual on a bass with an ebonized maple fingerboard. The transverse back brace was also an occasional prewar feature. The lack of a paper label indicates this instrument may have been sold under the Gretsch brand originally.
