Description
Oscher, Efrain (*1974)
I. Allegro
II. Andante
III. Guaguanco y presto bautista
IV. Rondo
In this concert, Efrain Oscher follows the tradition of many Latin American composers, such as Ginestra, Piazolla, Márquez and Villa-Lobos. He uses South American traditional and folkloric material to create works presented within Western forms. The Allegro
first movement begins with the playing technique Guarachoso ma non troppo , a reference to the C umbia , which is very popular in Venezuala. In the second movement , Andante , the music begins with a baroque-esque theme, followed by variations ending in tango ecstasy – a tribute to Astor Piazolla .
The cadence that opens the third movement is based on the Cuban musical style of guaguanco . This is followed by a passage of flamenco and jaropo , the most popular style of Venezuelan folk music. Both styles serve as a platform for the soloist to display virtuosity and passion – elements that are not lacking in any Latin American concert.
The edition includes the double bass parts in solo and Viennese tuning.
