Description
Ohrid Trout, composed in 2015, is a virtuoso piece originally written for solo piano. The present work is inspired as much by a love of nature as it is by a raw, universal meaning of a very personal experience. The Ohrid trout, an endemic species native to Europe’s oldest natural lake, is threatened with extinction. For the author it is synonymous with a lost love. The current version of the work was created in 2016 in collaboration with the double bassist Gjorgji Cincievski. Transcribed for solo double bass and piano accompaniment, the world premiere of this version took place that same year in Beijing (China), at the Cadenza International Double Bass Festival. The work is characterized by its energetic minimalist idiom, Macedonian folklore and unusual rhythms. The double bass part in this edition was revised and edited by Gjorgji Cincievski, to whom this work is dedicated
