Sergei Rachmaninov’s ” Elegy ” , Op. 3 , no. 1 is the first of a collection of five pieces that were originally written in 1892 for piano . Rachmaninov dedicated this Opus his composition teacher Anton Arensky . Although there are early works , showing the pieces all the hallmarks Rachmninovs populäen style . In these pieces , there are a wealth of beautiful melodies that come with supposedly simple harmonies , coupled with complex chromaticism . The ” Elegy ” in particular has a unique nostalgic effect .

The idea of ??transcription developed out of the intent to expand the repertoire for bass and to underline especially the ” cantabile ” Quality of the double bass .
The output includes firstly the Piano in D minor and in E Minor . So the bass part can be played both in solo and with orchestra tuning .
