Description
Macedonian traditional folk music is famous for its complex rhythmic structure. It is a unique style, also characterized by modal harmony. It covers a wide spectrum of rhythmic complexity, which can be divided into three types: “Starogradsky” (mostly contains folk songs), “Oro” (the traditional circle dance) and “Calgija” (old rural style, which is the modes and rhythms of folklore that were introduced during the Ottoman Empire).
The present collection “Three Macedonian Pieces for Unaccompanied Double Bass” aims to facilitate access to the folklore music of Macedonia and to make the music better known in the international double bass scene.
