Description
Het Zout was premiered in 2016 by Nicola Malagugini and Mirea Zuccaro at the Faculty of Music and Dance (HAMU) of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. The piece is a kind of inner journey into madness: not in an aggressive way, but in a subtle and visionary way, in which everything moves on the border between reality and imagination. Often the two components are mixed to present a different, disturbing and sublime vision of the world.
“Het Zout” means salt. According to popular belief, drinking salt water makes you crazy. The work owes its Dutch title to an associative chain: the piece begins with a few notes from a traditional song by Sicilian salt workers and develops as a free game of associations. From the salt workers it leads to the sea, from the sea to Holland, a country torn from the sea.
