Thank you for choosing Lemur for your bow needs. Your seven (7) day trial starts upon receipt of the bow. If you need a longer trial period or if you have any questions not covered here, please call our office at 1-800-246-2277.
Keep all the packaging for possible shipment/return.
Getting started: Congratulations! Choosing a bow to compliment your instrument and your technique is always exciting. We understand the amount of rosin bassists use and the frequency with which they use it vary greatly. Furthermore, there are many different kinds of rosin and their characteristics vary just as much: light, dark, powdery, tacky, most are susceptible to seasonal conditions. We also understand that when a bow has fresh hair, it can take a while to be "played in." Because your trial time is limited, our bows are moderately rosined and "played in," so they are ready for your evaluation upon arrival.
Once you tighten the bow, draw some full bows to warm up the bass and the bow; the rosin and the bow hair will be less effective if they are cold. The amount of rosin needed tends to vary with different strings and bows, so go slowly, you can always add more.
About hair tension: The bows have been shipped with the hair loosened. Tighten the hair only enough to make it taut to the touch. Do not over-tighten the hair. Overly-tight hair will not help you “get a grip.” Since the mechanism that tightens the hair is composed of fine screw threads in soft materials, it is possible to damage the bow by over-tightening. Proper tension will help prevent the following problems:
- Straightening the camber of the stick from too much tension.
- Pulling the wedge out of the ferrule or pulling the hair out of the tip.
- Stripping the eyelet or the threads on the screw.
- Cracking the button or stick.
Work with Someone: Have a teacher or colleague work with you to get the best results. Have them listen and have them play so you can listen. Play the same material with each bow: open strings, scales, and part of a piece. Judge the bow attributes separately for low, middle, and upper registers. How is the weight? The balance? Is this bow doing more of the work than you? How does it sound with your bass? Complimentary? Is it loud enough?
To avoid restock and repair fees, please remember:
- Loosen the hair each time you are finished playing.
- Avoid damaging the finish with scrapes and gouges. Do not a tap music stand with a bow.
- Be careful where the bow is left when not in use. Leaving the bow on a music stand, chair or sofa is an invitation to disaster.
- Do not leave the bow in a hot car or in direct sunlight. Avoid exposure to heat.
- Follow the section below on returning the bow carefully.
To return the bow(s):
- Contact Lemur for a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number at 1-800-246-2277.
- Wipe the excess rosin off and loosen the hair before you repack the bow(s).
- Repack the bow(s) using the same materials in which you received the bow(s). Re-pack for tip protection by using padding at both ends of the tube.
- Write the RMA number along with your name and address on the outside of the package and insure the package for your cost of the bow(s). We will issue your merchandise credit when the bows are returned to our shop in the same condition they were shipped.
